Why Homeschool?!?

Proverbs 22:6
Train a child in the way he should go, and
when he is old he will not turn from it.

Dear
Family and Friends,

As some of you may know Matt and I have decided to homeschool our children.
This decision is not one we made hastily, or just out of nowhere. A little over
3 year ago, I (Misty) was really thinking about my responsibility as a parent,
how God has entrusted us with our children, to raise them up to know and serve Him.

Everything I did and everywhere I went, Homeschooling kept coming up. I talked
it over with Matt and at first it seemed like a brilliant idea, then an
enormous amount of doubt set in. I found myself making excuses as to why
Homeschooling wasn’t for us and how it just wouldn’t work out. Most of which
were just selfish reasons on my part. God didn’t give up on me though.
Throughout the next months the topic continued to be apart of my thoughts, and
everyday life. I made a commitment to pray about it and have been ever since.
From putting these questions in God’s hands, I have come to the understanding,
that the Lord has laid this on my heart, and I know without a doubt, this is
His Will and calling for our lives.

Therefore, we decided to finish off part of our basement for this purpose
and make a 14’ x 24’ classroom. To complete a job like this the big
things we had to do was seal the basement walls/floor and do
heating and duct work down there. Along with these expenses, we understood that
we would need classroom supplies and curriculums.

After praying about these expenses, I got the idea of doing some sort of a
fundraiser or bake sale like regular schools do to raise some of the money,
which I did. I ended up selling monkey bread, cookies, craft items, had a big yard sale to help us support this ministry, and yes I said ministry. Some may travel across the world to preach and reach people for the Lord, being a stay at home mom and teacher, my ministry is here in my home, raising warriors for Christ.

We know it isn’t going to be easy and there are going to be days we want to
quit, that is were you all come in, we are asking you to come along side us and
pray with and for us. We know without a doubt God will see us through and
provide for our needs, if we seek to follow after Him.

Thank you all for your support and prayers, each one is very encouraging to us.
We will be sure to keep everyone updated on what's going on in our little
school and what we are learning about!!! =)
LOVE,
Matt, Misty, Logan, Zachariah, Wylie, Katelyn Hovis
