1 Month: Started Early Intervention, ST and; PT once a week for now. Had a heart specialist appt. and found out miss Katelyn has a VSD (small hole in her heart). She is starting to coo and smile some. Holding her head up a little better and still nursing like a little pro!
2 Months: 6wks 3 days baby Kate rolls over from her belly to back! I could hardly believe it! WOW way to go girlie! Here is the video of it
3 Months: Smiling like crazy now, cooing even more and even interacting with everyone around her. Baby Kate started rolling over from her back to belly on Dec. 28, 2011! Now she can go both ways! YEAH! Keep it up my girl! Started playing with toys and reaching for things. Bring things to her mouth.
4 Months: 10lbs 13 ozs 23 1/2 inches long Decided to cut back on ST & PT since baby Kate is doing so well. She has been keeping up with regular milestones or earlier. Meeting her goals and amazing everyone she comes in contact with. Now she will have ST 1x a month and PT 2x a month. January 16, 2012 tryed rice cereal for the first time, did great with it, didn't eat much of it but was able to swallow well and didn't gag or chock at all on it. Holding head very well, staying on her belly more and rolling over more than once in a row. Can keep her head up at 45 and 90 degree while on belly.
5 Months: Starting to push up on her arms and trying to put her knees under her. =0) Can sit pretty well supported.
Also 5 months can't stop this girl she is moving like crazy, rolling clear acrossed the floor and putting her knees up to scoot forward! Been eating baby food now once a day and started drinking some water from a sippy cup Feb. 13, 2012. Been blowing raspberries like crazy it's her way of show us frustration and happiness, it's like she has a certain one for different feelings haha!
Katelyn Laughing Video
6 Months: Baby Kate isn't crawling yet but well on her way. She is now finally pulling her knees under herself without fighting to strighten her legs!!! We have been working on sitting alot as well, she for sure is strong enough to do it on her own for some reason though she likes to throw herself backwards while sitting. Not sure if it is a balance thing, like she feels she isn't balanced so she trys to get it and falls over. We will continue to be working on this. She will sit with her hands supporting herself for 11 secs though which is an impovement from 4 secs two weeks ago. Stayed on her hands and knees for almost 1 minutes today as well!! Way to go Katelyn!!! We also have upped spoon feeding her to 2 times per day and she continues to do great with it. Fri April 13th finally put Kate in her own room in the crib for the first time... =0( it was so bittersweet for one she is getting bigger but my baby isn't in my room any longer! She is doing great though continued sleeping through the night and loves her crib. Still trying to get her to say mama and dada we have heard both sounds a few times but not chained together as in mamamama or dadadada just ma or da is all we have heard so far.
7 Months: So Katelyn is just getting done with 7 months, can't believe my little girl is already going to be 8 months old! Time sure is going by fast. This month we took her to Wexford Children's to get her eyes and ears checked out. Her eyes look great with no concerns at this time! YEAH! She didn't pass her hearing test though she did at birth but the ear doctor said it could be because she has alot of fluid behind her ears. Most likely tubes will be in Katelyn's near future.
Still been working hard on getting Kate to sit up on her own, seems like she still wants to throw herself back. She has however started trying to sit herself up from being on her hands and knees. While on her hands and knees she has been rocking some and even has inched forward to get things. For sure been alot more interested in toys lately and desiring to get them!
This past week we have heard mamamama and dadadada quite a few times from Kate and she is still blowing her raspberries like crazy! Seems like she has wanted to do alot of "talking" lately! We also have noticed baby Kate maybe picking up a few of our sign language signs... mama, more and eat.
Katelyn now eats soild baby foods twice a day normally 2 4oz jars plus rice cereal mixed into them. Matt also decided we should try those Puff things, which I wasn't sure about... Katelyn actually didn't do bad with them, we did however break them into smaller pieces so she could get use to them. She even will try to pick them up herself off her tray!!! We have been trying to get Kate use to a sippy as well, she will drink from it and she loves holding onto it but we still have to tip it up for her to get anything out of it.
Tuesday May 15th is our next heart appt to check up on Kate's VSD please continue to keep her in your prayers! =0)
8 and 9 Months: I haven't gotten a chance to update this page for awhile and I have a TON of news to share. First off at Katelyn's heart appt. they didn't notice any change so we have to go back in 6 months, doctor said he can't rule out surgery just yet. Thankful she is doing well enough though that we don't have to do anything like that for now praying that God continues to watch over her and heals her little heart! Well we have BIG NEWS KATELYN IS SITTING UP COMPLETELY ON HER OWN AND CRAWLING!!!! YEAH she can do it! I was starting to get a little worried about her not sitting alone yet and that very week she started doing it than she started crawling on July 3rd so pretty much 9 1/2 months old. Katelyn's PT say average for crawling for even a "normal baby" is actually 9 months so she is right on track! She is still saying mamamama and dadadada, papa is a new one plus lots of other babbes. I am so amazed by this little girl I can't even start to tell you! What a blessing she truely is!

1 YEAR ALREADY!!!! Katelyn is doing AWESOME! I am so thankful for this past year with my little girl and I couldn't be more proud of who God created her to be and what she has been able to do! Around 9- 9 1/2 months Katelyn started to sit up and crawl all within the same week. Than by 10 1/2 months she was kneeling and starting to pull her self up on things. I am happy to say that by 1 year old Miss Kate LOVES to pull up on everything (even the walls haha), she has been able to stand alone for a few seconds and loves to get into everything she isn't suppost to! My big girl is up to 15lbs 1 oz at a year old!!! In the area of language Katelyn is doing great as well, she can sign mama, milk, eat, more, dada and can say a few words like mama, dada, up, baby, bear, pull and pa. Katelyn is still breastfeeding and I planning on continuing to until she is able to use a sippy cup completely alone. She is still also eating jar baby foods stage 3 now but she also eats crackers, puffs, cherrios, and small pieces of bread, cooked veggies and pancakes all by herself. She has no problem at all with the pincher grasp! This past Monday we got wonderful news that Katelyn is doing so well she doesn't even qualify for early intervention since a child must have at least a 25% delay in at least 1 area of development and Katelyn doesn't!!!! We are praying that God continues to help Kate success in whatever she is working on doing and gives us the wisdom to do what is best for her!!!!
13-16 Months: My oh my how the time has gone by! Now that Kate is a year old things have been moving fast here at the Hovis house. Not only has she finally started putting on a little weight (just under 18 lbs), she is starting to talk alot more and is so very close to walking!!! She has a total of 3 teeth 2 on the front bottom and just got one on the front top. I am so happy to say Katelyn can use her sippy cup completely on her own and is drinking milk, juice and water from it. The past few months we have been weaning her from breastfeeding and she is down to only bedtime nursing. She still has been sleeping complete all night all and takes a 1-2 hr nap each afternoon. As far a food Katelyn is pretty much eating anything we eat, we do cut things up for her but she does fine with anything from pizza to hot dogs cut up into bite size pieces. She LOVES town house crackers too and enjoys her yogurt and cereal. The doctor asked Matt at Kate's last appt. how many words she is saying and he said maybe 10-12. After adding them up I think she is actually over that number!!!! Here is her list of words baby Kate can say, has said and does say. (mama, dada, daddy, brother, baby, baby kate, Bible, Wylie, papa, meme, hi, yep, bye bye, night night, ball, up, bear, Adalyn) I'm sure there are some others I just can't think of them all right at the moment. Overall she is doing amazing! She really understands things that we ask her to do, like which one is the baby or ball. She will go get whatever you ask her to. She still uses some sign language and trys to repeat things we say all the time! The other day while praying before a meal Matt said Amen and Katelyn tryed saying it! =0) She has been putting connections together like she knows when she gets her pjs on it's time for night night and she will say it over and over again! haha As far as motor skills she also is doing well and learning new things. Since about 13 months she has been able to stand completely on her own without holding on to anything. She is strong enough to walk she is just scared to do it. Now being 16 months she has taken a few steps on her own but prefers to do the bear crawl everywhere, hey it's faster! haha I always had a personal goal set for her to walk by 18 months but I'm not worried about her meeting it if she doesn't feel comfortable doing it, I know she could but she will do it when she wants to! She can climb steps fine and is very flexible as well! Overall she has been very healthly thank the Good Lord! In her 16 months she has only had one ear infection and that's it! No other colds or sickness! Praise God!
